Fotoausstellung: "Demenz in Beziehung"
In the organizer's words:
When dementia changes lives early on, relationships change as well. The photo exhibition “Dementia in Relationships” at ka:punkt Hannover from September 22 to October 12, 2026, gives a face to people with early-onset dementia and their families and brings their stories to light.
Since the summer of 2025, photographer Anton Vester has been documenting the Klöncafé at Lindenbaum, run by Caritas Hannover. There, he captures the lives of four families in which people with early-onset dementia live. The Klöncafé at Lindenbaum brings together younger people with dementia and creates a space for connection, exchange, and community. People between the ages of 50 and 70 meet here regularly to talk, play, and do things together. These encounters bring joy, provide a sense of security, and strengthen the feeling of belonging.
Dementia does not only affect older people. In Germany, an estimated 100,000 people under the age of 65 live with dementia. Many are in the prime of their careers or bear responsibility for their families. The diagnosis changes their daily lives and presents them and their loved ones with unique challenges.
The exhibition combines documentary portraits, double portraits, handwritten texts, and excerpts from conversations. This provides personal insights into the lives of people with early-onset dementia and their families.
We cordially invite you to visit the exhibition and discover the stories behind the images.
