FOTOAUSSTELLUNG : NOT QUITE WHAT YOU SEE

The project class for artistic documentary photography, led by Robin Hinsch, invites you to the opening reception on August 27 at the Academy of Photography.

Not everything is what it seems at first glance. “Not quite what you see” brings together nine photographic works that navigate the space between the visible and the hidden, memory and the present, the body and the (urban) landscape. The works trace the paths of transformation, belonging, and loss, and allow viewers to experience how closely personal stories are interwoven with social and political realities. Through poetic, documentary, and abstract visual worlds, they open up spaces where questions of identity, origin, healing, gender roles, and the imprint of a place are explored alongside issues of borders, family relationships, and the conditions of our coexistence. The result is imagery that offers not so much answers as a shift in perspective—toward what is visible and toward what is revealed only upon closer inspection.

The various photographic approaches were conceived and photographed in collaboration with Robin Hinsch @robinhinsch on a freely chosen artistic-documentary theme. On a monthly basis—in a format combining lectures and colloquia—the works were guided throughout the 10-month project class, and the results were discussed as a group.
