Frei Art Festival - Spring Edition: workshops and outstanding performances at Studio Pro Arte

From 1 to 4 May 2025, the Frei Art Festival, in cooperation with Theater Dortmund, will bring the NRW Junior Ballet to Freiburg with pieces by Marco Goecke, Alexander Ekman and Xin Peng Wang. In collaboration with the German Professional Association for Dance Pedagogy, specially designed workshops and seminars with Rainer Behr, Nadav Zelner and Bruno Genty will take place. In addition to an open stage for artists of all genres and a showing of current residencies, the festival primarily offers space for encounters and exchange with the international dance world.

The NRW Junior Ballet is one of Germany's elite young dancers and has the opportunity to work with the best choreographers. At the festival, they will be showing excerpts from the piece Midsummer Night's Dream by award-winning choreographer Alexander Ekman as well as the performance Blushing by Marco Goecke, which has won numerous prizes, and the dance piece Im Wald by Xin Peng Wang, the ballet director and chief choreographer of Theater Dortmund.

The multi-day seminars and workshops with Rainer Behr, dancer at the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, and Bruno Genty, professor at the Anton Bruckner University, are organized together with the German Professional Association for Dance Pedagogy and are aimed at professional dance makers and dance teachers. The internationally active choreographer Nadav Zelner is also offering a three-day repertoire workshop that can be combined with the seminar program.

The second edition of the Festival Open Stage will take place alongside the performances and workshops. Dance and movement artists of all kinds can apply to present short pieces. There will also be showings of current residencies as well as networking events for encounters and exchange.
