In the organizer's words:
The Old Town Hall is a landmark of the civic city of Leipzig. The Renaissance building, with its Baroque-style tower, dominates the market square. From the historic cellar with its old prison cells all the way up to the spire, the building itself tells the story of Leipzig’s history and is thus also the most significant exhibit of the Leipzig Museum of City History.
The exhibition in the Old Town Hall, spread over two floors and titled “Leipzig Original: From the Middle Ages to the Battle of the Nations” and “Modern Times: From Industrialization to the Present,” presents the eventful history of the city of Leipzig. Among the most significant exhibits are the famous portrait of Bach by Elias Gottlob Haussmann from 1746 and Katharina von Bora’s wedding ring from 1525. A dress made from inflationary currency from the 1920s and the impressive installation “People’s Police in Uniform Against Monday Demonstrators” also offer unusual insights into Leipzig’s past.
