Friends of Italian opera
The mother of all Ruhr area comedies
An Italian lodger is shaking up the lives of the Kopleck family in musical, culinary and amorous terms.
Text:
Sigi DomkeDirected by: Markus Andrae
The year is 1969: Moon landing and jumbo jet, Woodstock and sexual revolution, Willy Brandt becomes German Chancellor and Richard Nixon US President, Michael Schumacher is born and Theodor W. Adorno dies, "Easy Rider" in the cinema and the "ZDF-Hitparade" on TV, the "Spaghetti Knot" is inaugurated and there are "Red Dot Demonstrations" against fare increases ...
In this time of upheaval and contradiction, the Italian so-called "guest worker" Rudolfo Zampini applies to live with the very German Ruhr area family Kopleck as a lodger and sets profound change in motion with charm, humor, Italian cuisine and even more Italian opera - against all resistance from father Heinz.
Based on an idea by theater founder Thomas "Schnulli" Koppelberg, Sigi Domke's stroke of genius is now in its twenty-ninth year on the GREND stage and has long since become CULT!
Play duration: approx. 2 hours 20 minutes (incl. interval)
