Friede, Sicherheit und der Beitrag der Kirche
In the organizer's words:
Discussion on a Current Controversial Issue
Panel Discussion and Conversation
The Military Service Act, which introduces mandatory military registration effective January 1, 2026, represents a significant step in the “turning point” proclaimed in the wake of the war in Ukraine. It makes the security policy contribution to peace a matter for society as a whole—and, judging by the intensity of the protests against the military registration, does so far more vividly than the democratic legitimacy of the Bundeswehr as a “parliamentary army” ever could.
But is society equally involved, or must the younger generation now pay the price for the strategic failures of political leadership over the past decades? And to what extent does gender equality play a role in the military draft, which currently applies only to men?
The diversity of questions and viewpoints invites open discussion and broad participation, which this event aims to foster through a panel with a diverse lineup and an integrated workshop. Different viewpoints and questions—along with the underlying ideas and perceptions of intergenerational coexistence—are to be exchanged, linking the perspectives of those directly affected with the concerns of the common good.
