FROM HERE

FROM HERE is a documentary that follows the lives of Tania, Sonny, Miman and Akim over a period of ten years. They are artists and activists from Berlin and New York with different experiences of migration. Although they do not know each other and live in different communities, they are united in their fight for recognition and a life without discrimination.

While the USA and Germany are grappling with racism, nationalism and struggles for national identity, the protagonists are on the cusp of their 30s and are facing important turning points: They fight for citizenship, start families and find space for creativity. This sensitive and nuanced documentary follows their lives in two of the world's largest immigration countries, capturing their struggle to belong.

FROM HERE offers four different visions of resistance and resilience, showing not only the struggles of a young generation, but also their tremendous strength.

The film was released in 2020, has been invited to numerous film festivals in Europe and around the world and has won several awards. After the screenings in the Parkaue, we will talk to guests from the film's team: producer and political scientist Olga Gerstenberg and filmmaker and researcher Canan Turan.

FROM HERE is accompanied by a media and education initiative that bears the original name of the film,With Wings and Roots. The initiative offers workshops and includes a content-rich web platform with educational materials, interactivetimelineson migration history and the opportunity for visitors to share their own stories in thestory collection.
