Führung: Borghorst - Die Grenzen der Tideelbe
In the organizer's words:
Pure fascination with the tidal Elbe
Between nature conservation, use, embankment and renaturation, the Elbe makes its way towards the North Sea and passes through a particularly exciting section in Borghorst: shortly before the tide ends at the Geesthacht barrier, a multifaceted landscape of tidal freshwater mudflats, wet meadows and rare inland dunes unfolds to the east of Hamburg.
The geographical location of the town and the nature of the terrain have given rise to a rich variety of flora and fauna, which is home to real treasures, such as the highly endangered stinging umbel.
Find out more about why the landscape around Borghorst is so unique, how the tide shapes this habitat and what effects human intervention has on the Elbe ecosystem.
Be curious about this tour, on which Frederik Landwehr, an expert on Borghorst, will show us the secrets of this area. He is in charge of the Loki Schmidt Foundation's beaver project. With exciting specialist knowledge and a great deal of passion, he provides fascinating insights into the natural area around Borghorst and the world of the beaver: a shy animal that creates wonderful habitats for countless species as a landscape designer and yet is not popular with everyone.
Gain your own impression and judge for yourself: With a bit of luck, we may even observe beavers in the wild on this day. But even without a direct encounter, you can expect a varied excursion full of exciting nature observations, interesting stories and surprising details about the flora and fauna of the tidal Elbe.
Look forward to impressive views, inspiring conversations and a special end to the day surrounded by fascinating nature. Register now and rediscover the Tidal Elbe!
