In her essay Bleibefreiheit, Eva von Redecker radically rethinks freedom. As the freedom to live in a place where we can stay. She thus contradicts a prevailing understanding of freedom that disregards the time factor. However, this goes hand in hand with the duty to stand up for social conditions that make it possible to stay in the future - against the devastation of climate catastrophes, wars and displacement. What does "freedom from lead" mean for people on the move who have had to flee and whose right to stay has already been taken away?
Eva von Redecker discusses these questions together with Ruben Neugebauer, who has set up Sea-Watch, a central organization that tries to secure the right to leave in the Mediterranean.
