Futur Proche

In the organizer's words:

A dance piece about dealing with nature

What will our future look like? There is no clear answer to this question, but we can try to shape it together. Futur Proche is an attempt to find an expression for our immediate future. Major challenges such as climate change, epidemics and wars require us to act. With Futur Proche, choreographer Jan Martens makes us think about possible alternatives for our future world. The dancers of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen embody a driven but intimate community in an increasingly threatening environment. In their midst, harpsichordist Gośka Isphording plays her instrument live with lightning-fast fingers to powerful rhythms. She steers the dance to exhausting heights. This is followed by relief. Are we capable of bringing about change together?
"I want to bring the state of crisis to the stage through a raw, rough and wild dance." Jan Martens

A production by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, co-produced with Festival d'Avignon, deSingel.
