THIS IS WHERE WE BELONG! explores the themes of identity, belonging, and cultural respect within global hip-hop culture. The performance examines power structures, community, and the issue of cultural appropriation—navigating the balance between exchange, consumption, and appreciation. Over 100 children and teenagers from all levels of the Hip Hop Academy’s program bring the diversity of hip-hop culture to the stage: breaking, rap, singing, hip-hop dance, and producing. Under the artistic direction of Franklyn (Slunch) Kakyire and instructors from the HipHop Academy, the result is an evening full of expression, attitude, and communal energy.
