Gamelan Lindhu Raras – Music from the Javanese Courts

The Javanese gamelan ensemble Lindhu Raras was formed in Berlin as a result of a workshop in 2007 with the late Dhalang (puppeteer) and musician Sri Joko Raharjo. He gave Lindhu Raras its name, which means “harmonious quake” in the Javanese language, and encouraged the workshop participants to continue performing together. Since then, the ensemble has grown and evolved, bringing together musicians from a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds and presenting traditional Javanese music and dance in various venues in Berlin and beyond. Most recently, the ensemble has performed at Luftschloss, Villa Kuriosum, as well as at its home at the House of Indonesian Cultures in Berlin. 
- In a rare performance at the Galiläakirche, the delicate sounds and layered textures of the gamelan orchestra will fill the church’s space as the group performs large pieces and suites from the classical repertoire of the royal courts of Central Java. Lindhu Raras will be joined by special guests from Hamburg and Budapest for this evening.
