Gaye Su Akyol is one of the most exciting voices on the Istanbul music scene. Musically, she moves between Anatolian folk-pop, post-punk, Turkish psychedelic rock, surf, African and Middle Eastern melodies and a touch of disco. Her work as a singer-songwriter, producer and audiovisual conceptual artist moves simultaneously between the traditional past, the hyper-connected present and the still undefined future.

In her songs, Gaye Su Akyol sings of Turkey's political climate, in which even a woman's declaration of her sexual identity is revolutionary, while also recalling the beauty of Istanbul before the coups fundamentally changed her homeland. Her latest album "Anadolu Ejderi" (Anatolian Dragon) is driven by a strong urge for personal and political freedom. The mixture of Turkish psychedelia, powerful commentary and retro-futuristic sounds is more artistically and politically uncompromising than ever before.

Gaye's music acts like a time machine for listeners, taking them to places they have never been and reminding them of everything that was once lost there. This is also reflected in the instrumentation, as she has now expanded her palette. The classic rock trio of guitar, bass and drums is accompanied by traditional instruments such as violin, oud, electric baglama, cümbüş and sazbüş.

Gaye Su Akyol uses the full power of music to stand up for justice, cohesion and equality and calls on the audience to get moving.
