Gedenkveranstaltung zum Jahrestag des Völkermords an den Êzidinnen und Êziden
In the organizer's words:
On August 3, 2014, the terrorist organization “Islamic State” attacked the Yazidi areas in Shingal, Iraq, and committed genocide there. Thousands of Yazidis were murdered, abducted, and enslaved; tens of thousands lost their homes, their loved ones, and their livelihoods. The consequences of this crime against humanity are still felt today.
Germany has taken in many of these people. Today, the largest Yazidi community outside their original homeland lives here. The goal of this event is to keep the memory of the victims alive, to give a voice to the survivors, and to stand together against hatred, exclusion, and religious persecution.
In November 2024, two elm trees were planted at Millerntor Stadium in memory of the genocide against the Yazidis, and in June 2025, a commemorative plaque was installed and dedicated. The memorial event will take place at this location. This site stands not only for remembrance, but also for solidarity, humanity, and the responsibility to take a stand against all forms of genocide and human rights violations.
You are cordially invited to attend.
