Co-production of the Hamburg Theater Festival with the Burgtheater Vienna.

A theatrical treat right at the opening of the festival. After the premiere in Hamburg, the project will be included in the repertoire of the Burgtheater Wien, where it will be successively developed further with each performance: Caroline Peters and Martin Wuttke test their strength as the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont, two of the most fascinating, malicious, clever and cunning characters in literary history. The two high noblemen, linked by an affair in times past, plumb the depths of their love-hate relationship. Their victims: a virtuous married lady, a young girl, a tempestuous lover - and themselves.

Merteuil is far ahead of her time, an unconventional woman, subtle, political, role-critical, power-conscious and, yes, scheming. Valmont is the only one who seems her equal in his intellectual mercuriality, his sinister sense of destruction. The Marquise and the Vicomte - brilliant roles for Peters and Wuttke - are the puppet masters of this story, in whose strings first others and then they themselves become fatally entangled.

This co-production of the festival with the Wiener Burg is based on the festival series "Leseproben", in which strong material is brought to the stage by great actors in an open form between reading, rehearsing and acting. In "Gefährliche Liebschaften", the aim is to go one step further: For the first time, Jan Bosse, a very renowned director, will stage the exchange of blows and bring it into play. The aim is to open a dramatic grab bag, with even more theater and head cinema than before!
