Gemeinsame Wanderung: "Bergischer Weg" und "Neandertalsteig"
In the organizer's words:
The “Bergische Weg” is a long-distance hiking trail approximately 260 km long that runs between Essen and Königswinter. It connects the Bergisches Land and Siebengebirge nature parks in 14 stages. In 2024, it was named “Germany’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trail.”
The first stage of this fitness hike connects Lake Baldeney with Velbert-Langenhorst, taking us through the first hills of the Bergisches Land. There, we change direction and continue our hike westward along the “Neanderlandsteig” to Kettwig. Along the way, we’ll pass through downtown Velbert, walk a few kilometers along the Rinderbach stream to the Heiligenhauser Abtsküche, and shortly thereafter reach the quaint Café Herberge.
Via Oefte, we’ll make our way back through unspoiled forest into the Ruhr Valley, from where we’ll take the bus back to Kupferdreh. The selected route is approximately 25 km long and can be completed in a pure walking time of 6.5 hours. With an elevation gain of 350 meters, the hike is challenging but, at a moderate pace, suitable for people with hiking experience and average fitness levels.
The starting point will be announced at a later date. The entire hike will take place in a small group and will last until around 5:30 p.m. Meals are not included, so please feel free to bring your own snacks. A group stop for refreshments (at your own expense) is planned.
The participation fee is €15. Please register here .
