An apolitical, political story about a man who refuses to believe in money and possessions.

With Gospodin, multi-award-winning author Philipp Löhle has created a character who, in his search for freedom and self-determination, eludes our capitalist system and fascinates us with the consistency with which he does so.

The story begins with Gospodin's llama being taken away from him. Greenpeace took it to the zoo, which was the straw that broke the camel's back. He completely rethinks his life and sets new priorities: Money and all possessions are to be categorically rejected with immediate effect. Those around him show little understanding. His girlfriend Anette leaves him because an unemployed partner and an unconventional life are out of the question for her. His search for liberation from materialistic constraints ends up where he would have least expected it

He is not a revolutionary, but a simple man who does not want to despair of his circumstances. Bettina Rehm uses humor to portray Löhle's protagonist as a likeable stubborn man and a haven of peace in an otherwise loud, garish, materialistic world. She invites us to laugh at ourselves and reflect on the burning question: do we want to go on living like this?
