Geschichte und Kultur der Hafenstadt Odesa

In the organizer's words:

The Gemäldegalerie is hosting a series of events entitled "Art and Culture in Times of War: Focus on Ukraine" to accompany the special exhibition "From Odesa to Berlin. European Painting of the 16th to 19th Century". The special exhibition can be viewed free of charge by participants on the event evenings from 6 to 7 pm.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the country's art and culture have been severely threatened. Cities such as the traditional port metropolis of Odesa, whose historic center is a World Heritage Site, are repeatedly the target of attacks. Cultural assets are at risk of being destroyed or have already been destroyed on a large scale: the history and memory of a society are being lost.

In lectures, readings and discussions, historians, art historians and writers will address history, art and culture as well as the current threat to the country from very different, often very personal perspectives.
