Giorgio Griffa, retrospettiva

For Gallery Weekend Berlin, we are presenting selected works by Giorgio Griffa in collaboration with Fondazione Giorgio Griffa and Xavier Hufkens.

Giorgio Griffa, born in 1936, lives in Turin and, with his long international art career, is one of the most important painter personalities of our time.

Typical and characteristic of all his work since the early 1970s is the way Griffa draws his lines on fabric, linen and nettle, places dots, writes numbers and texts and fixes the cloths to the wall with fine pins without a stretcher.

Griffa's work bears witness to great asceticism and unpretentious modesty. His depictions with abstract elements seem self-evident and resemble musical scores; they are reflections on the status of painting.

Walter Storms Galerie has been showing Giorgio Griffa since 1980. In Berlin, the gallery supported the exhibition of his group of works "Golden Ratio" at the Mies van der Rohe Haus in 2012. In 2022, the Centre Pompidou in Paris presented a comprehensive overview of Griffa's work.
