Girl and Girl for five shows in Germany

Sometimes it's the unusual stories that make a band particularly fascinating. Girl and Girl from Queensland are a perfect example of this. What began as a casual jam session in a garage quickly developed into one of the most exciting new bands on the indie rock scene. With their unique blend of electrifying live shows and emotional depth, Girl and Girl have been on a remarkable journey just three years after their formation. The story of the Australian garage rock band actually began in a garage. Singer Kai James and guitarist Jayden Williams were jamming in Kai's mother's garage after school when one day Kai's aunt Liss came over after a walk with her dog and asked if she could play along on drums. "It sounded really great," Kai remembers. "We begged her to stay and she said, 'I'll stay until you find another drummer'. We wore her down and she eventually became a permanent member." With Fraser Bell on bass, the band was complete. Their sound, which is both emotionally intense and undeniably entertaining, has quickly made Girl and Girl one of Australia's most promising new bands. TheMusic.com.au named them one of the "Top 25 Rising Acts of 2021", and in 2022 they won the inaugural Gold Coast Music Prize. In 2023, Girl and Girl released their first EP "Divorce", followed today by their debut album "Call A Doctor". "I can hear the stress in the record, which is good, because that's what it's about - being tense, tied up and in your own head," explains James. The album's eleven songs range from sweeping guitar epics and ironic acoustic shuffles to spiky punk maneuvers and raw indie pop. "Call A Doctor" offers a snapshot of James' personal history, reflecting on his past struggles and new fears. "I've struggled with my mental health for a lot of my life," James explains. "The band started to attract attention and I felt a huge amount of pressure to live up to that." Instead of crumbling under that pressure, Girl and Girl perform with full force, proving that even the darkest of topics can be presented with an unabashed, bold sense of humor and an undeniable brightness in the darkness. This is what makes their music so captivating and unique. Girl and Girl are also coming to Germany for five concerts in the fall.
