GOOD BOY – WIR WOLLEN NUR DEIN BESTES

Nineteen-year-old Tommy (Anson Boon) enjoys his life as a criminal, repeatedly inciting his friends to commit cruel acts of violence and bragging about it on social media—until one night he is kidnapped by a stranger. When Tommy wakes up, he finds himself chained up in the basement of a remote suburban house where his kidnapper, Chris (Stephen Graham), lives with his wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough) and their young son Jonathan. The family does everything in its power to “reform” Tommy’s uncontrolled behavior, subjecting him to numerous psychological games in an effort to turn him into a “good boy.” While Tommy resists this by any means necessary, he is drawn ever deeper into the dysfunctional family dynamics of Chris, Kathryn, and Jonathan—and is also confronted with his own longings. And gradually, Tommy realizes that his feelings are blurring between hatred and sympathy, between the urge to flee and the need for closeness.

With his film “Good Boy – We Only Want What’s Best for You,” Oscar-nominated director Jan Komasa (“Corpus Christi”) presents a provocative social thriller that The Guardian has already compared to Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange.”
