Good Morning! - Szenen einer Befreiung

Spring 1945. A woman comes down the steps of a house and squints into the sun. A man walks by. He stares straight ahead. A child touches the cold hull of a tank and runs away. The soldier doesn’t look after him. A couple dances across the square. The woman turns around and disappears back into the house.

The play “Good Morning – Scenes of a Liberation,” created to mark the 80th anniversary of Germany’s liberation from National Socialism, explores the situations of various characters in the days and months following the arrival of the Allies. What does the end of the war mean for a Jewish person, a forced laborer, a Nazi Party official? Liberation or occupation? A new beginning or a collapse? How do people who were perpetrators and victims just yesterday encounter one another? Through theater and video art, the production brings to life the characters’ feelings, thoughts, longings, and fears, revealing the underlying notions and meanings of freedom and liberation in the spring of 1945 and building a bridge to the present day.
Eighty years after the end of the war, what notions and meanings of freedom shape our society? Where do we stand today?

  • Drütte Concentration Camp Memorial: Access to the memorial is generally on foot. The walking path is not accessible for people with mobility impairments: a long flight of stairs must be used.     Access to and visits to the exhibition “Concentration Camp Prisoners in Arms Production” within the memorial itself are accessible to people with mobility impairments.
