Griff does things the way she sees fit. With her multi-faceted approach, she is the kind of modern pop star for whom existing rules are at best an offer that you can take advantage of - or not. Born and raised in Kings Langley, she began making music as a teenager. She quickly realized that she was doing things differently - perhaps influenced by her Chinese-Jamaican roots or her all-encompassing approach, which includes songwriting and production as well as fashion and design. From day one, Griff's learning curve proved similarly unconventional: before the pandemic hit, she'd only played one gig ever (for her DIY EP 'Mirror Talk'), yet her lockdown mixtape 'One Foot In Front Of The Other' - in which she expertly walked a tightrope between fragility and youthful fearlessness - would catapult Griff from virtually zero to pop stardom while she (like all of us at the time) was stuck in her room. From there, she watched in amazement as "One Foot In Front of The Other" became the first ever mixtape by a female artist to reach the Top 5 in the UK charts. Griff went on to win the prestigious BRITS Rising Star, two NME Awards and has amassed over 650 million streams to date with her self-made hits such as "Black Hole".
