Let's get down to business! The Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony begins for the Gewandhaus Orchestra with a major concert that focuses on the work of Paul Ben-Haim and Ernst Bloch. Ben-Haim began work on his First Symphony when he was just 18 years old, inspired by Gustav Mahler. Ultimately, it became the biographical music of an eventful life between the trenches of the First World War and German-Jewish exile in the Second World War. Ernst Bloch's "Avodath Hakodesh" (Service) for baritone, choir and orchestra concludes this haunting evening of musical togetherness and cultural interaction, which is brought to life by "Tacheles!".
