Experience the virtuoso Kristina Reiko Cooper on the cello together with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, conducted by Alan Gilbert!
You will first hear Lera Auerbach's 6th Symphony "Light Vessels", which is dedicated to Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese consul in Lithuania who saved the lives of 6000 Jews during the Second World War by issuing them visas on his own authority. Among them were the soloist's parents-in-law.
The second part of the concert features Dmitri Shostakovich's 10th Symphony, in which he musically deals with his suffering and persecution under the Stalin regime.
