At last: the final reading and drawing show on the subject of death... with all our favorite dead people of the last ten years! David Bowie, Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld, Jane Birkin, Amy Winehouse or Prince: they are all included in the large compendium STAYING ALIVE, published by DuMont in fall 2025.

Uniquely drawn by Hamburg line genius Alex Solman, in-house artist of the Golden Pudel Club with his incredibly versatile style. Humorously pointed and poetically commented by Gereon Klug - the only author that Harry Rowohlt translated into English (and not the other way around!). In the reading show, you will get to know all these people, who have achieved such great things that they have burned themselves into our cultural memory, in a sure-fire new way. A must for all survivors!

It started with David Bowie and Prince, then came Aretha Franklin and Karl Lagerfeld, and finally Tina Turner and David Lynch: important people who have been with us for a lifetime died suddenly. The Hamburg-based illustrator Alex Solman has dedicated unique illustrations to these personalities from the worlds of art, music and science. Sometimes he draws the deceased with straight lines and dry humor. Sometimes with psychedelic brushstrokes and serious sadness. 'Staying Alive' presents 210 portraits of the greatest people of our time, 80 of which are supplemented by Gereon Klug's trenchant short texts.

A book that is not a tribute to the deceased, but a gift for the survivors. And an offer to explore the work of the greatest idols of our era anew or to discover them in the first place.

GEREON KLUG is an author and songwriter. He owns several record stores and a music label, writes for DEICHKIND and has worked with STUDIO BRAUN. He has also published several books: children's books, column books, even a cookbook that you can cook. He lives in Hamburg.

ALEX SOLMAN is a freelance artist living in Hamburg and Berlin. His illustrations can be seen in DIE ZEIT and on numerous album covers. For many years he has been responsible for the illustration of posters and flyers for the legendary Hamburg club Golden Pudel.
