The thematic starting point of "UNRUHE" is the "St. Vitus Dance", a dance epidemic that struck the inhabitants of Strasbourg in 1518 and kept more than 400 people dancing in the streets for several weeks. By examining this unusual phenomenon, which remains a mystery to this day, and the socio-political environment in which it occurred, "UNRUHE" explores the extent to which individual and collective impulses, including dance, are existential needs.
Are there experiences that we as a society perhaps hardly seek and yet only a collective act can offer? "UNRUHE" invites the audience to a ritual happening that is somewhere between a concert, a play and a celebration. It is an invitation to explore a mystery that only arises at the moment when people come together.
