Hair is Home

An exhibition by Emely Adaeze Ozoh
The exhibition "Hair is Home" takes place as part of an FSJ project in the pavilion and shows people with Afro hair from the community of a mixed person in Germany. Among others, relatives, friends, braiders and afro stores are shown. The people and places photographed play a special role for the photographer in her initial exploration of the topic of Afro hair.
For many mixed people born and living in Germany who have little contact with their culture of origin, Afro hair is often the first point of contact with their roots. For people with Afro hair, the topic of hair is unavoidable, and by dealing with the care, the different styles and the history, the first connection to the roots of one's own culture often arises.
All photos are taken by the organizer herself to reflect the personal connection and inspiration. For her, hair is not only an aesthetic feature, but also a deeply rooted emotional symbol of identity and belonging. This emotional relationship with hair should be reflected in the exhibition photos, giving viewers the opportunity to grasp the personal meaning and stories behind the hairstyles.
Visitors are cordially invited to experience the diversity of Afro hair in this exhibition and to be inspired by the stories and backgrounds.
