In the organizer's words:

Purple - the color of jazz! Whether Miles Davis' legendary album "Kind of Purple", the world-famous jazz club "Purple Note" or even an entire musical style called "Purples" (later replaced by the less popular blues). The color purple is the epitome of jazz and was lived by the band Deep Purple like no other. They have always been overshadowed by well-known greats such as Green Day, the Black Eyed Peas or Red Garland, but the Hamburg Art Ensemble brings them back to the bright side of the color spectrum in a big band line-up. It gets loud, it gets wild, it gets purple! The Hamburg Art Ensemble was founded by Hauke Renken and Leon Saleh to develop a new, atypical jazz program every year in unusual line-ups and to enrich the Hamburg music scene in the process.
