Hamburg entdecken | Vermächtnis-Krimi Stadtrallye | Zeitreise durch ein Jahrhundert mit Fun Facts
In the organizer's words:
Do you feel like getting out and about, but a typical stroll through the city just doesn’t seem like enough? Then here’s a tip for Hamburg: a self-guided city scavenger hunt on your smartphone—from Jungfernstieg to the modern HafenCity district, home to the Elbphilharmonie. With over 2.5 hours of puzzle fun, it’s the longest scavenger hunt available here in Hamburg.
You’ll dive into a story: a mysterious newspaper ad, a hidden legacy—and an invitation to rediscover Hamburg. After the death of a Hamburg industrialist, a mysterious clue appears in the Morgenpost: His entire estate is not to go to his family, but to those who pass his final tests. What follows is a journey through nearly a century of the city’s history. A mysterious Hamburg resident guides you through his life, from the 1930s to the present day: Step by step, you’ll follow in his footsteps through the city, solving tricky puzzles and discovering how Hamburg has changed over time. His story is closely intertwined with that of the city—war and reconstruction, technological milestones, social upheavals, and the transformation into a modern metropolis.
The route itself is a journey through time: from Jungfernstieg with its early technological innovations, past significant World War II memorials, on to Rathausplatz in the postwar years, through the decades of economic boom, and finally to modern HafenCity with the Elbphilharmonie as its architectural highlight. The puzzles are directly linked to the locations: sometimes you’ll observe from unusual perspectives, other times you’ll decipher hidden details, or let yourself be guided by clues that only the city itself reveals.
The concept is simple: You book, are ready to go immediately, and start whenever you want—the rally can be played around the clock (best during daylight hours) and is valid for three years. Everything is self-guided on your smartphone, with no guide required. According to feedback from other players, the tour is among the more challenging ones. And if something comes up: You can cancel your booking for free up until the start time.
Along the way, the puzzles lead you not only to well-known landmarks but also to details that are easy to overlook—and you’ll learn about Hamburg’s history in the process. A few things most people don’t know:
💡 Did you know that Jungfernstieg was Germany’s first paved street in 1838?
💡 Or that the first underwater subway station opened here in 1931?
💡 Or that City Hall survived the war almost unscathed because a bomb failed to detonate?
Along the way, you’ll learn fascinating details about Hamburg’s development in the 20th century, architecture from the Imperial era to the modern age, defining events in the city’s history, and surprising fun facts with a local twist.
Whether as a couple or with a larger group: Are you ready to unravel the history and embrace the legacy? For groups of 2 or more, approx. 150 minutes, recommended for ages 14 and up and for adults.
Starting point: Jungfernstieg (central location)
End point: Elbphilharmonie (easily accessible by public transit)
