Go through the large front door of the apartment building, then straight on through the gate.

Now you are standing in the backyard, with the garbage cans to your left, sometimes smelling less, sometimes more. It's best to walk on quickly, around to the right, past the old chestnut tree that stretches its branches into the sky. Just behind it is the entrance to the rear building. A narrow staircase takes you up to the second floor. The red entrance door is now in front of you.

Behind it is the Egers and his wife. Step inside! At the back of the apartment, he is lying in bed and dreaming of his funny news. He sits in the living room armchair and shakes his head. Come into the kitchen, where he has just eaten a cheese sandwich, you can still smell the cheese. Now he's leaning out of the kitchen window. You can look right over his shoulder. You can hear the old woman coughing Schlitz beer from the front building. One floor below, the Bahulgen children and the child's mother are whining; it's about the boy's firebugs running around in bed, they are whining so loudly that your synapses almost fall out of your ears. Egersdörfer quickly closes the window again and there he has discovered you.

But you don't need to be afraid, he won't hurt you. He'll even make you a cup of coffee. All you have to do is sit down at the kitchen table and listen to him and he will tell you all about the cough and the bugs and what other news there is from the Secret Annexe.

He is a good storyteller and you are the perfect audience.
