The Alps - a place of longing for many hikers. For Antje too.
When she crosses the Alps in 2022 - on foot and alone - she spends the night in huts on the mountain and in inns in the valleys. She would love to spend the night outdoors, just as she usually prefers to do when she is out in nature - direct and undisguised. In direct contact with everything. Antje is a hammock expert and whenever possible, she spends the nights on her tours sleeping under trees with a view of the treetops and the endless starry sky.

Again and again during the crossing of the Alps, she imagines what it would be like to spend the night in the countless beautiful places. She gazes longingly out of the windows of the mountain huts at the alpenglow. The Alpine region is almost entirely covered by national parks or protected areas. Wild camping here is not only generally prohibited, but also a "no go" for the outdoor enthusiast. Antje more than happily completes her crossing of the Alps, but the longing remains.
1.5 years later, she stumbles across an article about the world's first hammock trail in the middle of the Swiss Alps. Above Lake Maggiore, in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, lies the village of Bosco Gurin. The village is surrounded by a network of hammock sites created as part of the Ggurijnar Hermi project.

The hammock trail is a community-oriented initiative. Everyone should be able to benefit from the trail. The locals, who are included because the places are close to the village and hikers can replenish their supplies in the village and share their passion for the tranquil valley in conversation. And people like Antje, whose desire to experience the nature of the Alps up close, dangling under larch trees and over streams with a view of the majestic peaks of the Lepontine Alps, is great.

There are two days between reading the article and booking a train ticket to Switzerland. Her anticipation is huge. Returning to the Alps in a hammock - Antje's longing is coming true.
In her talk, she will share practical tips for a trip to this special hammock trail and what it takes for a multi-day hike with a hammock. Above all, however, she will tell stories about her encounters with people and the Alpine nature. It will be great!
