At Haus Waldfrieden, everything has its regular daily routine. The staff work with all their might to give the residents a pleasant and dignified retirement. Hans has been living there for a while and is a little bit removed from the world. Then Grete moves into his neighboring room. While baking gingerbread, the two get closer and find their "soulmate" in each other. And the world around them is a little less gray.

Hans and Grete experience emotional highs and lows, great joy and great fear. But are their experiences even real? Or have Hans and Grete already slipped away into their own world? As they both begin to forget and reality increasingly slips away from them, they drift off together into a fairytale fantasy world.

"Growing old is not for cowards" is the title of a well-known book. And yet it is part of our lives that we have to deal with ageing and death. Just as children need our care, old people also need protection at some point. The young look after the old and become painfully aware of their own mortality.
