Hänsel und Gretel

In the organizer's words:

"Don't you know the eerily gloomy place, don't you know that the evil one lives there?": In a rush, the parents set off into the forest to rescue Hansel and Gretel from the crunchy witch Rosina Leckermaul. As feared, the children have lost their way in the forest and have stumbled upon the gingerbread house. They can't resist the sweet temptation - and fall into the trap of the witch, who literally loves children to eat...

As in most of the stories of the Brothers Grimm, in Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy tale setting everything turns out all right in the end: Until then, however, Humperdinck's romantic music leads the children deep into the dark forest of legends: here it conjures up magical creatures, calls upon 14 angels to protect the siblings and carries the witch through the air on her broom. Today, Humperdinck's classic, which premiered in Weimar in 1893, belongs to the Christmas season like the Advent wreath - and has been transporting young and young-at-heart audiences all over the world to the fairy-tale kingdom time and again ever since.
