Famous for their unique sound, the St. Florian Boys' Choir is one of the oldest boys' choirs in the world. Founded in 1071 in the Upper Austrian monastery, numerous outstanding musicians have emerged from its ranks, such as the composer Anton Bruckner. On the occasion of his 200th birthday on September 4, 2024, the choir is celebrating one of the most famous members in its history. Alois Mühlbacher joins us for this serenade. The former St. Florian choirboy already caused a sensation as a soprano soloist, today he is in international demand as a countertenor with his incredibly flexible and nuanced voice. In addition to works by Bruckner such as his motets "Locus iste" and "Os justi", the program focuses on composers who were of particular importance to the composer, such as Franz Schubert and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, both of whom he fervently admired throughout his life. As Bruckner was also fond of taverns, the St. Florian Boys' Choir also pays tribute to his love of folk music and presents works that they are convinced Bruckner would have enjoyed - Happy Birthday, Anton!
