In the organizer's words:
The pianist, composer, and Oscar winner Volker Bertelsmann, also known as HAUSCHKA, is one of the most extraordinary sound artists of our time. Inspired by John Cage, he began more than twenty years ago to prepare the piano’s strings using ping-pong balls, bottle caps, or parchment paper to elicit new and otherworldly sounds from the instrument. His collaborations with exceptional artists such as Hildur Guðnadóttir and Hilary Hahn have shaped his artistic practice just as profoundly as his work as a film score composer in Hollywood. In 2023, he even won the coveted Academy Award for the soundtrack to the World War I drama “All Quiet on the Western Front.”
