The film follows the fight for the rights of trans* people in the USA: from a Tennessee law banning gender reassignment medical care for adolescents to the Supreme Court hearing that brings the discriminatory law under heightened scrutiny.
At the center of the film is attorney Chase Strangio, the first trans* person to argue a case before the Supreme Court. Over the course of six months, the film follows his preparations, personal moments with friends and political developments such as the Trump victory and the increasing homophobia and trans-hostility in the USA. Special insights are provided by trans* people such as young Mila, whose school assembly shows how much her identity as a trans* teenager is threatened by this law. Media insiders make it clear that one-sided reporting and agenda setting stir up hatred and endanger democracy. A highly topical insight into the fight for LGBTIQ* rights, solidarity and the importance of community in difficult times. (Queerstreifen Münster)
