The archaeological landscape park at the gates of romantic Nettersheim was opened in May 2014. Here, in the idyllic Eifel region, the Romans once founded a settlement on the important long-distance road between the cities of Cologne and Trier, the Agrippa Road. Today, traces of this Roman settlement - presumably the ancient MARCOMAGUS - can be seen again in the Archaeological Landscape Park. On our circular walk through the Urft valley, we discover the source of the Roman Eifel water pipeline, walk along parts of the Agrippa Road through woods and fields to the "Görresburg" matron sanctuary, on to the Roman settlement (vicus) of Marcomagus and the small late antique fort on the Urft. Roman travelers probably already took this route when they were on their way from Colonia Claudia (Cologne) to Marcomagus.
