HEYM – VOM AUFSTOSSEN DER FENSTER

In the organizer's words:

With the band HEYM: Klara Deutschmann, Daniel Moheit and Robert Stadlober.

"But I went across the border," wrote the young Helmut Flieg in the spring of 1933, shortly after he had done just that, namely gone across the border. Fled from Germany, from the barbarism that was brewing, to Prague. Shortly before he gave himself the name under which he was to become world famous: Stefan Heym. He crossed the border, fled, because of a poem. One of over 300 that he wrote until the summer of 1936. By then he had already crossed several borders and would cross several more on his way through this 20th century, which was crisscrossed by borders.

At the beginning of 2020, Klara Deutschmann, Daniel Moheit and Robert Stadlober also found themselves at a border, in the border triangle between Slovakia, Hungary and Austria, right on the former Iron Curtain. And there, melodies suddenly covered these almost century-old lyrics and songs were created that speak across all the years and the borders into our present day. Songs of love and death, of the forgotten and the silenced, of the sadness and the joyful exuberance of history. Of Germany and of anti-fascism. Of the hope of the future and the future of hope.

In the sense of Stefan Heym: Of pushing open the windows.
