Halkawt Mustafa’s singular film grants us access into an unrepeatable story: In the wake of the American invasion of Iraq in 2003, modest farmer Alaa Namiq is forced to hide deposed dictator Saddam Hussein over the course of several months. Hiding Saddam Hussein provides untold insights into the legacies of occupation and the colonial logic that informs its practices. The film premiered at the Zurich Film Festival in 2024.
