On 16.05. at the BEST OF Poetry Slam at Schauplatz Langenfeld!

On May 16, it's time again for the country's best slam poets to take to the stage! The "Best of Poetry Slam" is coming to Schauplatz L angenfeld - and that means: an evening full of humor and goosebumps. Here you will laugh heartily and be moved to tears.

The show is organized by the experienced slam professionals Jan Schmidt and Andreas Klein, who have been curating poetry slam highlights throughout South Westphalia for years under the slam_kultur banner, and will feature a top-class selection of artists who have all enriched renowned slam stages.

On the stage in Langenfeld:

The slam stars of the NRW scene in competition with TV author Jann Wattjes.

TV author Jann Wattjes lives in his own madness. He writes texts about pasta bakes, Dutch Pokémon or tooth decay and yet wins every poetry slam in the end. For example, the NRW Championships 2021 or the Hamburg Championships 2024. His book "Das Leben ist wie eine Schachtel Sardinen" was published by Lektora-Verlag in 2022.

When Dilara Yüksek entered the world of poetry slams a few years ago, she quickly made the stage her home. After just two appearances, the native of northern Germany was nominated for the Lower Saxony-Bremen championships in Oldenburg at the age of 19 and came third at the U20 state championships in Celle a year later. She has always been an eloquent, humorous young woman with moving lyrics and an eloquent charm. In 2024, the Münster native was crowned state champion for North Rhine-Westphalia.

Philipp Scharrenberg moves somewhere between cabaret, slam poetry and word sport. As a manic-creative, he goes about his work with full physical exertion and fun with language, and sometimes people give him prizes for it. He has won the title of German Poetry Slam Champion three times (2009 individual and team, 2016 individual), in the 2013/14 season he won the Kabarettbundesliga, and his program "Verwirren ist menschlich" was awarded the German Cabaret Prize 2023.

After Jeanette Kasper-Feld successfully learned to write thanks to her primary school teacher, the scribbles eventually turned into texts. For the next 20 years, she practiced, sometimes more, sometimes less diligently, until in 2022 she finally felt ready to take it all to the public. As a slam poet, she spends most of her time on stage with angry poetry and sad prose, trying to put into words what almost fits in and yet sticks out. In doing so, she always manages to show the audience a different perspective that they have never considered before.

The NDR Comedy Contest participant Jan Schmidt, himself one of the most experienced slammers on the scene, will take over the moderation and enchant the audience again and again with his wit.

Poetry slam - what is it actually?

Poetry slam is a literary competition that enjoys great popularity. The performers must follow three simple rules during their appearances: all texts must be self-written, the maximum performance time is 6 minutes and no props or disguises are allowed. Apart from that, anything is possible. Whether comedy, poetry, cabaret, social criticism or poetic performance - anything that impresses with language is allowed at the poetry slam. And best of all: YOU, the audience, decide by applause who makes it to the final and goes home as the winner.
