Language wizard Hilmar Klute reads from his new novel in the city library

A feast for literature enthusiasts: Immediately after the Leipzig Book Fair on Saturday, April 5, author and journalist Hilmar Klute will be appearing on the reading stage at Recklinghausen City Library. Klute will be reading from his new novel "Im Traum suche ich immer das Weite". It is the long-awaited sequel to his successful work "Was dann nachher so schön fliegt". Klute already opened the Recklinghausen Literature Days with it in 2020. Back then, Antje Deistler from Literaturgebiet Ruhr hosted the event, and the second edition in April will be a reunion.

The plot: early summer, end of the 1980s. Volker Winterberg has finished his dream of bohemian life in Berlin and his community service. Now he's back home in the Ruhr region, doing his time in seminars at university, taking part in writing courses and helping out at the theater. But his hunger for the essence of life and art remains unsatisfied. Every evening he sees the plays of the greats on the theater stage, makes friends with the theater people and especially admires the great Traugott Buhre.

But instead of making progress, the past catches up with him: his brief Berlin affair announces her visit and causes the indecisive Volker enormous embarrassment. In line with the motto "You only had to be born in the right part of the world to lead a good life in the wrong part", he then decides to break out together with his friend Leo and travel through outer and inner continents: they travel south without a fixed plan and end up in the unknown expanses of officially still socialist Hungary. But there are other adventures waiting for Volker - and they take place in his head, but also in places where he would never have expected them.

The author Hilmar Klute is also the Streiflicht editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. He has published several books, including the time-critical essay Wir Ausgebrannten (2012). In 2015, Galiani published his "equally clever, thorough and affectionate" (FAZ) Ringelnatz biography War einmal ein Bumerang. His literary debut novel Was dann nachher so schön fliegt was published in 2018 and was highly praised by the press; the novel Oberkampf followed in 2020. Hilmar Klute currently lives in Washington D.C.
