With"out & down", the practical project of the students of the Master's program in Media Studies at Kiel University comes to an end: four short documentaries that approach the topic of the sea from four different angles. The films will be presented as part of the CINEMARE International Sea Film Festival Kiel!

Admission: € 10 / reduced € 8 - or with the BlueCard (festival pass, € 30, available in spring) € 1 of the admission price will be donated to "Everwave" for the collection of waste from waters worldwide. Can also be booked with the Cinfinity cinema subscription.

The films:

STRÖMUNGEN is a poetic approach to the sea as a source of artistic power. Two North German artists from different disciplines talk about their work and the special connection between their art and the water - a multi-layered view of the sea as a source of inspiration and emotional resonance (Anna Ascher, Frida Labitzke and Annabel Rapp, DE 2026, 15 min).

PORRENPANN looks behind the scenes of the North German crab fishery. Between tourist attraction and living cultural asset, the film accompanies fishermen in their everyday life on the North Sea. The result is an honest portrait of a traditional craft whose reality has little in common with the romanticized image (Hannah Hansen, Camillo Mazzi, Tim Schulze, Robin Steinke, Janne von Essen and Emma Willms, DE 2026, 15 min).

LEBENDIGES WASSER focuses on an often misunderstood creature: the jellyfish. The film explores the surprising versatility of these apparent troublemakers, which turn out to be fascinating underdogs of the sea. It also opens up a new perspective on a previously underestimated potential (Lene Baltzer, Julia Bielefeld, Alexandra Schlegel and Julie Stuhlmacher, DE 2026, 15 min).

GRUNDGEFAHR deals with an invisible threat off our coast: old munitions on the seabed. The film accompanies GEOMAR researchers in their daily work dealing with these ticking time bombs...
