Instead, we revel all the more in memories of the first inline skates, the only decade in which it was officially legitimate to wear shoulder pads, Super Mario and Pac Man, sitting in front of the radio for hours and putting together mixtapes, how David Hasselhoff brought down the Berlin Wall, the break-up of Bobbele & Barbara, swapping Pokémons in the school playground, cheering on DSDS, the first American Pie movie and the critical eye that has been cast on every apple pie ever since, nights spent playing Snake on the Nokia 3310 and the legendary Tic-Tac-Toe press conference.
