"Witness for the Prosecution" - Billy Wilder's cult film as a live radio play

London, 1948: the famous lawyer Sir Wilfrid is called upon to defend the unemployed Leonard Vole, who is accused of murdering the wealthy widow Emily French out of greed. She had appointed him as her sole heir shortly before her violent death - the perfect motive for murder. But Vole maintains his innocence and Sir Wilfried believes him, fighting tooth and nail to save his client from execution. It is above all Leonard's wife Romaine who is able to give her husband the alibi he so desperately needs. But when she takes the stand and testifies against him, all seems lost. A drama of trials and tribulations begins, in which soon nobody knows what is truth and what is a lie. And this suspense literally captivates the audience until the very last second.

The 1957 film adaptation by Billy Wilder with Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton achieved cult status and is still one of the most gripping courtroom dramas of all time. The sophisticated story was penned by Agatha Christie.
