Drifting clouds, restless birds and a lonely ambassador of humanity:

Forward is a multi-sensory collage of familial migrations: leaving the nest, cyclical return or even exile play a central role. In this interactive lecture performance, myths meet memories and salt meets the sky. This post-colonial storytelling tells us about planetary pain and involves visitors in ecological issues through scents, sounds and tastes.

Flamingos, for example, are not born pink: They borrow their color from the world they consume. The Jacobin cuckoo has probably never flown over the Jacobin church in Toulouse. The Golden Record contains greetings to the universe in 55 different languages of the world.

Nitish Jain's artistic practice encompasses storytelling, performing arts, object design and architecture. He is interested in exploring non-visual aesthetics and invites the audience to perceive art in a more tactile way by engaging the senses of touch, taste, smell and hearing in a variety of ways. His approach is based on phenomenology and Indian rasa aesthetics (which refers to essence, taste or evocative phenomena). Nitish Jain creates multi-sensory experiences with his artist group Studio MoreThanThat. His works have been shown at various international festivals in Germany, Norway, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, the United Arab Emirates and India and serve as a sensory counter-project against the politics of hate, racial and gender discrimination. Nitish Jain was a fellow of the International Forum at Theatertreffen 2024.
