Hommage à Legrand

The film music composer and jazz musician Michel Legrand (1932-2019), who won several Oscars and Grammy awards, wrote the soundtracks to the acclaimed musical films The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and The Girls of Rochefort (1967) by Jacques Demy, as well as the music for the film masterpieces Thomas Crown is Unbelievable (1968) and Yentl (1983), in which stars such as Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Gene Kelly, Nino Castelnuovo, Steve McQueen and Barbra Streisand played the leading roles. The songs from the films, including "I will wait for you", "The windmills of your mind" and "I was born in love with you", made Michel Legrand himself a legend, and his music has been interpreted by singers as diverse as Sting, Kiri Te Kanawa, Neil Diamond, Patricia Kaas, Jessye Norman, Vicky Leandros and Udo Lindenberg. In the Hommage à Legrand concert, members of the Staatsoper ensemble will once again let the hits, which range in style between jazz, chanson and pop, shine. The evening will be hosted by artistic director Bodo Busse, a great fan and connoisseur of Michel Legrand!
