The concert series Cinéma Sonore brings to life acclaimed works of the silent film era together with live experimental performances, reinterpreting early visual narratives through contemporary sound languages to discover new meanings and associations.

The Seashell and the Clergyman (1928, dir. Germaine Dulac) Obsessed with a general’s wife, a clergyman has strange visions of lust and death, struggling against his own desire. Preceding the influential work of Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel, Germaine Dulac constructs an unprecedented work of art, considered by many to be the first Surrealist film. Distorted images, bizarre repetitive patterns, all seen through a lens that shatters reality and mixes broken fragments with fantastical hallucinations.

The film will be accompanied by a short introduction.

Niklas Stadler is a Hamburg-based guitarist, producer, and visual artist exploring improvisation, global traditions, and experimental sound worlds. Shaped by collaborations across North and West Africa, his work focuses on textures, bold gestures, and the emotional resonance of sound.
