Horsegirl

Horsegirl—the Chicago-born, New York-based trio of best friends Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein, and Gigi Reece—has released its second album, *Phonetics On and On*, via Matador Records. Produced by Cate Le Bon and recorded at “The Loft” in Chicago (the band’s original and musical home), “Phonetics On and On” is an exploration of the boundaries between pop, minimalism, and playful experimentation. It’s hard to imagine these songs having been written by anyone other than Nora, Penelope, and Gigi. Horsegirl writes with unexpected honesty, guiding us through scenes from their childhood and youth. These are moments from their lives. The undeniable truth is that Horsegirl is a band made up of best friends; when you’re around them, you can see that love in their eyes, and it’s always a joy to witness. It’s a love that’s ever-present in “Phonetics On and On,” while tenderness resonates throughout the entire recording.
