One of the most controversial photographers of his time, Martin Parr's images often have the power to both amuse and make us a little uncomfortable, caught between laughter and the uncomfortable realization of recognizing ourselves in his uncompromising portrait of consumer society.

Although he is now celebrated, collected and exhibited worldwide, Parr's early work found little audience and was heavily criticized for trivializing the working class. In retrospect, however, he may just have observed what we often overlook - and brought it into the spotlight as an important topic of discussion. "I Am Martin Parr" is a portrait of an extraordinary photographer who revolutionized contemporary photography by inventing a political, humanistic and accessible photographic language.
